Data from our 2020 Local Search Report™ shows that the majority of Gen Zers prefer DoorDash over other popular food delivery services. Loosely defined by birth year, Gen Zers were born between 1995 and 2015. They are currently between 5-25 years old (nearly 74 million in the U.S.). For our study, we looked at the top end of the Gen Z age bracket (18-25).
One-third of this population orders food delivery services every week. When asked what food delivery services they have used in the past, 57% stated they had used DoorDash followed by Uber Eats, Grubhub, and Postmates with 47%, 42%, and 37%, respectively.
Ranking the food delivery providers in order of preference shows that DoorDash outshines its competitors in this age group. Over half (51%) stated they would prefer to use DoorDash over the other providers. Grubhub came in second with 16%, followed by Postmates with 14%, and Uber Eats with 11%. These results fall in line with similar studies conducted on the Brand preferences of Gen Zers and with the recent stay at home orders we've see usage numbers jump across all age groups.
As it stands now- food delivery is alive and well and as this generation matures it will continue to be an important distribution channel.
