Sixty-nine percent of Millennials, age 23 to 38, have tried voice-based search on a mobile device according to our latest wave of the Voice Assistant Monitor™. This is up 15% from prior-year results. Of the Millennials that do use voice-based search, 74% do so weekly. The top activities continue to be related to finding general information. They include looking up general information (53%), finding weather information (43%), and providing instructions on how to do something (30%).

Data released from our recent Consumer Technology Monitor™, shows smart speaker adoption has nearly doubled over the past two years. In 2017 only 38.4 million people were using smart speakers, and that number nearly doubled in just two years to 68 million this year. We estimate that the number of smart speaker owners in the U.S. will continue to grow over the next three years to 85.4 million in 2022. Much of this growth will be driven by Millennials (23-38). They will account for nearly a third of smart speaker purchases over the next 12 months.
